Important Dates

Early October TBA Application due to the Fellowship Coordinator--See below for details.
October Cornell endorsement committee reviews applications and selects up to three applicants to be endorsed to the foundation.
October TBA FINAL SUBMISSION of endorsed applicants' materials to the Fellowship Coordinator
November 1 Foundation deadline for receipt of application material
Late Fall First round of interviews (all nominees)
February 2019 Selection of 45 finalists for second round of interviews
Mid-March Selection of Luce Scholars
April 2019 Cornell Fellowships Reception for all endorsed applicants

Application Process

Students’ and alumni's applications must be processed and endorsed through the CCS fellowships office to be eligible for the competition at the regional and/or national level. Endorsement decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

Applications are available online. Call the Fellowship Coordinator, 103 Barnes Hall, 607/255-6931, to schedule an appointment.

APPLICATION MATERIALS DUE to Fellowship Coordinator October 2018 (date TBA)

The Fellowship Coordinator will forward your materials to the Cornell Endorsement Committee. Please make sure that you read the fine print on the application forms and that you have filled in all the blanks as you would for the final submission. All materials must arrive at 103 Barnes Hall by 2:00 pm, early October 2018 (date TBA).

Submit to the Fellowship Coordinator:

  • Waivers and memoranda of understanding (available from Cornell fellowships office)
  • Contact Information Form
  • Application
  • Personal Statement
  • College transcript(s) from each institution attended
  • Four letters of recommendation

A range of academic, professional, and personal references. Choose people who know you well and who can attest to your academic qualifications, abilities and leadership in your chosen career, and personal qualities such as flexibility, tact, adaptability, sensitivity, and personal initiative. Letters are due to the Fellowship Coordinator by 2:00 pm, October 2018 (date TBA).

FINAL SUBMISSION to the Fellowships Coordinator, October 2018 (date TBA)

Endorsement

If you are endorsed, it is your responsibility to submit the final version of all application materials by 2:00 pm, November 1, to the Fellowship Coordinator, who will forward them to the Luce Foundation.

A complete application consists of:

  • Contact Information Form
  • Application
  • Personal Statement
  • College transcript(s) from each institution attended
  • Two recent passport-sized color photographs with name printed on the back of both photos
  • Four letters of recommendation
